Capitol Corridor's ridership drops due to government furloughs

Last week, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority reported that while ridership continued to decline in February compared with the same month in 2008 and 2009, the monthly loss was less than the one posted in January, the authority said in a prepared statement. Ridership for February dropped 4.7 percent to 110,280.

More than half of the Capitol Corridor’s year-to-date ridership decline appears to be a result of three Friday furloughs per month for state government employees, according to the authority. The furloughs are reducing ridership about 5 percent, officials estimate.
