The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will host a public meeting tonight to discuss the environmental assessment (EA) of the proposed $17.5 million University Circle-Little Italy Rapid Transit Station.

The agency received a $12.5 million grant for the new station's design and construction from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Federal Transit Administration. The proposed Red Line station will replace the station now located at East 120th Street and Euclid Avenue, GCRTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The new station will be located at East 119th Street and Mayfield Road, near the Little Italy neighborhood.

The federal dollars are coming from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery III program. Providing additional funding for the design of the area around the station are the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, Little Italy, the Cleveland Foundation, University Hospitals, the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University.

The public will be able to view the EA through March 13. Comments received will become part of the official record, GCRTA officials said.
