The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is increasing fares on the Connecticut zones of MTA Metro-North Railroad and the CTrail's Hartford Line and Shore Line East services. The first 5% increase will take effect Sept. 1, and another 5% increase will begin July 1, 2026.

While Metro-North is owned and operated by the MTA, CTDOT is a managing partner of the commuter railroad. Impacted lines on the Metro-North Railroad include the New Haven, New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury Branch Lines. Zones in the state of New York will not be impacted, CTDOT officials said in a press release.

The two fare increases are necessary to fill a funding gap in the ConnDOT's biennial budget. The revenue from the increases will be used to avoid service reductions, CTDOT officials said in a press release dated July 30.

More information on the fare increases, including fare rates for 2025-2026 on impacted service zones, can be found here.
