It’s official. Today, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) launched revenue service on the entire 28-mile Green Line — the longest light-rail line to open in a single day in the United States since 1990, according to a press release. The agency opened a 24-mile, 15-station section of the line, which connects Pleasant Grove southeast of Dallas to Farmers Branch and Carrollton, Texas. In September 2009, DART launched service on a four-mile, five-station section connecting Pearl Station on the east side of downtown Dallas to the MLK Jr. Station on the west side of Fair Park. The $1.8 billion project was funded with local dollars, as well as a $700 million Full Funding Grant Agreement from the Federal Transit Administration. Today, DART also opened the Lake Highlands Station, the agency’s first infill station. The facility is located on the Blue Line in northeast Dallas between White Rock and LBJ/Skillman stations.
