The TransEd Valley Line Southeast light-rail transit (LRT) line will open Nov. 4 for passenger service in Edmonton, Alberta.

The LRT line has been independently certified by professional engineers, a safety auditor and an independent and professionally qualified certifier, Edmonton city officials said in a press release. It recently received a formal certificate indicating the infrastructure is complete and meets the requirements of the project agreement.

"Valley Line is the first completely new transit line to open in western Canada in a generation and will transform the way we move and experience our city," said Edmonton City Manager Andre Corbould.

Leading up to the opening, final operational exercises will be conducted along the alignment to ensure train operators and control center staff are prepared to handle standard operational challenges encountered by all transit agencies.

The 8-mile LRT system will include 11 street-level stops and one elevated station.
