First streetcar vehicle arrives in Cincinnati

Cincinnati on Friday took delivery of its first streetcar vehicle, which arrived from a CAF USA manufacturing plant in Elmira Heights, N.Y.

The streetcar was originally scheduled to arrive Oct. 30, but issues associated with loading it onto a flatbed tractor-trailer delayed it until the afternoon, Cincinnati city officials said in a press release.

Although the vehicle's arrival marks a major milestone for the project, the line is still 10 months away from being operational. The city is waiting on four additional vehicles that are slated to arrive over the next few months, city officials said.

Passenger service is scheduled to begin in September 2016.

The project remains on budget, city officials said.

The entire Cincinnati Streetcar will consist of a 3.6-mile loop running through the city's downtown area.
