GO Transit to receive millions from federal and provincial governments, extend one morning train

The Canadian and Ontario governments recently announced plans to jointly provide up to $500 million to GO Transit to build parking structures and upgrade rail lines.

"In the years ahead, this joint investment will provide real, noticeable improvements across the GO network and make the commute better for our growing ridership," said GO Transit Chairman Peter Smith in a prepared statement.

The funding also will help create jobs in the Toronto region and improve access to public transit, federal government officials said.

Meanwhile, on March 2, GO Transit will extend service on one of its weekday morning trains. The 7:32 a.m. weekday eastbound train from Aldershot Station now will begin service at Hamilton GO Centre, departing at 7:17 a.m. The train will make all regular stops from Hamilton to Oakville, then operate express service to Union Station.
