The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) announced that the third rail for the second operating segment of the Skyline rail system — from Aloha Stadium Station to Middle Street Station — was energized June 17.

The authority now can begin certain testing along the system's section. Trains will move along the rail guideway from Aloha Stadium Station past Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Pearl Harbor to Middle Street Station. The Skyline segment is expected to open for service in late 2025.

The energized third rail provides power to the trains 24/7 and carries 750 volts of electricity, HART officials said in a press release.

The Skyline’s first segment opened in June 2023, linking East Kapolei and Aloha Stadium. The final segment between Pearl Harbor and downtown Honolulu is projected to open in 2031.
