Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) has launched an online ticket sales program for round trips on The Tide, the new light-rail service in Norfolk, Va.

The “e-Tide” day pass represents the first time HRT has offered a program that sends valid tickets directly to an individual’s email account, HRT officials said in a prepared statement.

The new service “promises to ease congestion at ticket vending machines at train platforms, especially during large public events when lines can delay travel,” they said.

The tickets can be accessed through the HRT’s website. The service is available only for The Tide, which opened in August.
