By month’s end, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is expected to sign a measure that will authorize the state to join the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.

The group aims to promote regional passenger-rail service improvements and long-range intercity passenger-rail plans, and coordinate interaction among Midwestern state officials, and the public and private sectors.

Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and Ohio currently are commission members.
