The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) has dedicated the new Hyde Park Station on the K Line to Crenshaw, California, and surrounding communities.

The new station is surrounded by several historic neighborhoods, including Crenshaw, Hyde Park, Leimert Park, Vermont Square, Manchester Square and Inglewood. The station is located at the intersections of Crenshaw Boulevard, Slauson Avenue and 59th Street along the Crenshaw Corridor.

The dedication ceremony — which featured L.A. Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins, L.A. Metro First Chair Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker and Crenshaw community leaders — highlighted the importance of the station to the surrounding historic communities.

All stations will include artwork commissioned through the transit agency's Metro Art program. Hyde Park will also feature a series of porcelain enamel artworks by Carlson Hatton, titled "Hyde Park Oasis."

"[L.A. Metro] and the city of Los Angeles are pulling out the stops to make our new Hyde Park K Line Station as safe and accessible as possible for our community," said Dupont-Walker in a press release. "Taken together, these improvements will vastly improve access to opportunity that Hyde Park has needed for decades."

Also known as the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project, the $2 billion K Line will operate over 8.5 miles. The project will create more transit options for riders by extending the E Line and merging with the C Line, providing a link to Los Angeles International Airport.

The K Line is expected to open with seven stations later this year, with an additional station expected to open in fall 2023. The airport connection is scheduled to start service in late 2024.
