The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) will host three public meetings later this month to review a study of potential links between the growing rail system and L.A. International Airport (LAX).

Now under way, the study is examining a four-square-mile area bounded by La Cienega Boulevard to the east, Manchester Avenue to the north, Imperial Highway to the south and LAX terminals to the west, LACMTA officials said in a prepared statement.

Initial alternatives under consideration include light-rail transit, automated people movers and bus transit. The agency will hold the meetings Aug. 23, 25 and 30 to better understand the community’s “vision for improving transit services to LAX, including how a connection to LAX might reduce traffic congestion and improve transportation options to and from the airport,” LACMTA officials said.

Measure R, the half-cent sales tax increased approved in 2008, would provide $200 million in partial funding for the Green Line-to-LAX project, they said.
