More than half of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's peak-period Blue Line trains now feature six cars instead of four.

The agency is adding capacity as it takes delivery of new rail cars, primarily by increasing train length from four to six cars. So far, MBTA has taken delivery of 70 new Blue Line cars, 56 of which have been accepted for service.

In 2008, the Blue Line averaged 58,226 riders each weekday, up 3 percent compared with 2007.
