MBTA launches two express trains on Worcester/Framingham Line

Today, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will begin operating two express trains along the Worcester/Framingham Line between Worcester's Union Station and Boston's South Station, Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Richard Davey announced.

The express service will include one trip from Worcester to Boston in the morning and a return trip form Boston to Worcester in the evening.

In October 2012, CSX Corp. transferred ownership of the tracks and operations along the Framingham/Worcester line to Massachusetts. Since then, three inbound and three outbound trains were added between the commonwealth and New England's two largest cities, totaling 31 stops arriving at or departing from Worcester Station.

"After the state finalized its historic agreement with CSX Transportation, new opportunities are beginning to emerge for commuters and businesses in Worchester and surrounding communities," Murray said in a press release.

Gov. Patrick Deval's administration plans to reach 20 round trips by October, the press release stated.
