Nearly 92 percent of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's (MBTA) commuter trains were on time last month, according to Keolis Commuter Services, which operates the agency's commuter-rail lines. The figure marks the system's best on-time performance since 2006, Keolis officials said in a news release."While we’re pleased with September’s performance, we remain focused on doing what’s necessary to deliver strong results like these for the people of this community each and every month," said Keolis General Manager Gerald Francis. When figures were adjusted to take into account delays caused by issues beyond Keolis' control, on-time performance came in at 94 percent, surpassing targets set in the MBTA's service improvement plan announced in August. Under that plan, Keolis pledged an average on-time performance of 92 percent throughout the year, with no month falling below 90 percent. The improvement plan followed severe service breakdowns in February that altered commuter-rail service for weeks. The Boston-area transit agency will continue to work with Keolis to maintain service levels, according to MBTA General Manager Frank DePaola."As another winter approaches, the on-time performance rates are certainly trending in the right direction," DePaola said.
