The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's (MBTA) plan to extend its Silver Line bus service will include a $20 million expansion of the Chelsea rail station, Gov. Deval Patrick announced Wednesday.

The MBTA will create a new branch of the Silver Line Service that will connect South Station and the Seaport District with East Boston and Chelsea, Patrick and MBTA officials said in a press release.

The $82.5 million "Silver Line Gateway Expansion" project will modernize the Chelsea station, which will be relocated to Everett Avenue as part of the new multi-modal Silver Line/Commuter Rail Station that will be ADA accessible and compliant, MBTA officials said.

Service is expected to begin in late 2015.
