The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority on Sept. 30 will partially reopen the Winchester Center Station on the Lowell Commuter Rail Line.

MBTA closed the station in 2021 and began a $50 million renovation of it in spring 2022. The south half of the now Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant station will open for inbound and outbound commuter-rail service, MBTA officials said in a press release.

In addition to the ADA improvements, the project includes installation of three new elevators, reconstruction of ramps and the addition of level boarding platforms. Canopies, signs, railings and lighting have been upgraded, and bike racks and benches have been added

Prior this project, the station had not seen major repairs since the 1950s. The rest of the station is expected to reopen late this year.
