The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to purchase and transform an MTA-owned lot in the New York City borough of Brooklyn into a residential transit-oriented development (TOD).
The MTA seeks to develop about 300 housing units on the lot, which was rezoned for mixed-use development last year, MTA officials said in a press release. At least 75 units will be affordable housing, they added.
Funds from the sale of the lot will go toward MTA's capital budget, authority officials said. Proposals that include transit accessibility improvements will be permitted a higher density allowance.
Located at 1119 Pacific St., the site was previously an MTA New York City Transit cable shop. In an agreement with the city during the rezoning process, MTA agreed to move the shop to a new facility at 2016 Pitkin Ave., also in Brooklyn. Ownership of the site is being transferred to the city for development, said MTA officials. The site also includes the air rights around NYCT's adjacent Franklin Avenue Shuttle location.
