The United Transportation Union (UTU) and Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) recently hammered out a new seven-year contract covering conductors and assistant conductors working on Metra’s Fox Lake-Antioch, Elgin, Western Avenue, Heritage Corridor, SouthWest Service, Rock Island and Electric districts. About 85 percent of UTU members approved the pact.

Retroactive to 2004 and expiring Dec. 31, 2011, the contract includes wage increases, improved benefits and work rule enhancements, UTU said.
