Metra’s board recently hired accounting firm Blackman Kallick to perform an independent risk assessment and provide advice on governance, financial controls and oversight.

The firm will assess the agency’s internal controls and management, including an analysis of board governance and financial controls to prevent fraud, theft and "abuse" in light of allegations that former director, the late Phil Pagano, was improperly paid vacation bonuses, Metra officials said in a prepared statement.

The firm will report directly to the board.
