Metro Transit's proposed Blue Line Extension light-rail project in Hennepin County, Minnesota, is moving closer to environmental work and design of the recommended route, agency officials announced last week.
The Corridor Management Committee approved the recommended route last week. The proposal will now undergo additional in-depth engagement and review, Metro Transit officials said in a newsletter.
The Hennepin County Board and the Metropolitan Council still need to formally adopt the route at a meeting scheduled later this month. After that, the cities of Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Robbinsdale and Minneapolis will be able to weigh in during the municipal consent process expected to begin in 2023.
A working anti-displacement group led by the University of Minnesota Center for Urban and Regional Affairs is leading efforts to develop actionable policies and strategies to prevent displacement along the route, officials said. Their work will be coordinated with the environmental review and design process in order to best implement those policies.
Environmental issues that will be analyzed include potential impact on noise and vibration, visuals, property, parks, soil, water, safety and transportation.
