Metro Transit-St. Louis has selected a design team for a new MetroLink light-rail station near the Cortex Innovation Community, which is adjacent to the city's Central West End and Forest Park Southeast neighborhoods.

The design group will be managed by HNTB Corp. and includes KAI, Access Engineering, Glasper Professional Services, TSi Geotechnical and Kivindyo Engineering Services.

The design phase for the new station, which will be located on the MetroLink system between Boyle Avenue and Sarah Street, will take 10 to 12 months, Metro Transit officials said in a press release.

Construction is slated to begin in summer 2017 and be completed in 2018.

The overall project also includes an addition to the Great Rivers Greenway bike path and an extension of the platform at the Central West End MetroLink Station.

The project is being funded largely by a $10.3 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Also contributing to the project's cost is a public-private partnership that includes BJC Healthcare, the Cortex Innovation Community, Great Rivers Greenway, the St. Louis Development Corp. and Washington University.
