Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro-North Railroad Sept. 24 awarded joint venture Slattery Skanska/Edwards and Kelcey a $76 million contract to construct a train maintenance facility.

The 62,000-square-foot Highbridge Yard Rail Maintenance Facility will be built near Yankee Stadium and have space for 20 cars on two tracks. Contract terms cover all equipment needed to service both diesel- and electric-powered trains, which will be stored in the yard between morning and evening peak periods.

The project also includes an office and employee area to be built above the shop, two track miles, 32 switches and an electric substation.

Work is scheduled to begin immediately and conclude in 18 months.
