Yesterday, MTA Metro-North Railroad began providing bus service instead of train service along the Port Jervis Line. The service will remain in place the next several months while the line — which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Irene — is repaired.

Bus service will be offered seven days a week, departing from the Otisville and Campbell Hall stations.

The 14-mile line typically provides train service to 2,300 riders each day. Riders using the bus service will be taken to nearby stations in New Jersey and across the Hudson River “in a complex plan to provide alternative public transportation,” said Metro-North President Howard Permut in a prepared statement.

“It is the most extensive and complex busing program ever implemented by the railroad,” he added.

The bus schedules take into account local traffic and meet train departure times, Metro-North officials said.
