MTA Metro-North Railroad plans to issue a request for proposals to develop its first transit-oriented development at the Harrison, N.Y., station to improve access to trains by replacing surface parking lots with three acres of retail and housing developments, and a new parking structure.

The project also will serve as a catalyst for downtown Harrison redevelopment, Metro-North officials said in a prepared statement. The project has been awarded a Smart Growth grant.

The RFP will be released July 8 on the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s web site, Metro-North officials said.
