Metrolink scored a pair of grand prize awards and four other "AdWheel" awards for excellence in communications, advertising, marketing and promotion at the annual American Public Transportation Association meeting held last month in Houston.Hundreds of entries were submitted this year in five categories; first place honors were awarded in various subcategories. Grand Prize winners were chosen from among first place honorees in each group, Metrolink officials said in a press release.Metrolink won Grand Prize awards for its "Smarty" passenger car in the illustrated vehicle category as part of the agency's larger safety campaign, as well as for its Facebook page in the social media category. The agency also received first place awards for the Interstate 5 Traffic/Commuter Incentive Program in the radio advertisement or public service announcement category, and for the University Station poster in the poster category."Our core goal is to safely transport passengers to their desired destination comfortably and on time, but there are a number of ways to successfully communicate [our] services and options," said Metrolink Chief Executive Officer Michael DePallo. "These awards validate and recognize the hard work, professionalism and effectiveness of our marketing, communications, and safety staff."
