NCTD lowers fares, increases service hours in San Diego area

Effective Thursday, North County Transit District (NCTD) will reduce fares for Coaster trains and Breeze buses, and extend Sprinter light-rail service hours with late-night trains on weekends, the San Diego-area agency announced Monday.

The lower fares will remain in place for one year, but Sprinter's extended service hours are permanent, NCTD officials said. Depending on zones, fare prices will drop $1 to $1.50 for a one-way ticket and $17 to $34 for a monthly pass. The agency also will consolidate pricing zones from four to three.

Sprinter's new service hours will feature two additional evening trains that will leave Escondido, Calif., Monday through Thursday, and late-night trains will be added Friday and Saturday nights.
