Yesterday, NJ Transit’s board advanced the first phase of a project designed to add high-level platforms and elevators at Perth Amboy station.

The agency signed a $1 million contract with Stantec Consulting Services for preliminary design and engineering services for the project. During this phase, replacement of the existing low-level platforms with either a center island high-level platform or two side high-level platforms will be evaluated. Final design and construction will be completed in subsequent phases, NJ Transit officials said in a prepared statement.

The board also approved the lease of retail spaces at two stations. Fast food restaurants plan to open at the Trenton Transit Center and the Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Seacaucus Junction. The board authorized a 10-year lease at the Trenton facility and a five-year lease at the Lautenberg station.
