New Jersey Transit will add express rail service this summer to New Jersey beaches, shore towns and boardwalks as part of the New Jersey shore's revitalization following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy last year, agency officials announced yesterday.

To be launched June 2, the service will consist of four new weekend express trains between New York Penn Station and Long Branch. It is part of an overall expansion of the North Jersey Coast Line rail service. In addition to the express service, hourly rail service between Long Branch and Bay Heal will resume operations, NJ Transit officials said in a press release.

"NJ Transit is committed to making the trip down the shore quick, convenient and comfortable for the hundreds of thousands who will return to our world-class beaches and boardwalks this summer following Superstorm Sandy," said Chairman James Simpson.
