NJ Transit to open Wesmont Station on Sunday

New Jersey Transit will open the state's newest rail station May 15 in Wood-Ridge, N.J., on the Bergen County Line, the transit agency announced yesterday.

The new Wesmont Station is part of a new transit-oriented development (TOD) and the result of a public-private partnership between NJ Transit and Somerset Development, agency officials said in a press release.

The agency and development firm shared the cost of the $18 million station, which is located on the site of the former Curtiss-Wright industrial plant. NJ Transit's portion totaled $6 million.

"This project is a prime example of how a public agency and a private developer can work together to invest in our transportation system for the benefit of neighboring communities," said NJ Transit Interim Executive Director Dennis Martin. "This new station will be primed to provide easy connections for nearby residents to get anywhere in the tri-state region and beyond."

Riders can use the station to access Bergen County Line trains for service to Hoboken Terminal, Penn Station in New York and Newark Penn Station (via Secaucus Junction), where connections can be made with the Hudson-Bergen light-rail line, New York Waterway Ferry and PATH service.
