Last week, MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) launched a pilot program at the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues Station to provide passengers real-time train locations on the L line.

The Train Locator Console (TLC) displays a video subway map derived from the L line's computerized operating system. The TLC comprises 42-inch, flat-panel televisions with a split screen: the bottom half displays the location of trains moving along the entire L line; the top half shows a magnified view of the station where it's installed, and the next station in both directions.

NYCT developed the system in-house using the existing public address/customer information screens and computer-based train control (CBTC) systems. The agency might extend the pilot to other stations along the L line and roll out the TLC program on other lines as public-address and CBTC technology is upgraded.
