Phoenix's Valley Metro seeks public input on proposed fare changes

Valley Metro is soliciting public opinion through Nov. 3 on potential fare changes that could take effect March 1, 2013.

The proposal calls for a 25-cent increase for a one-ride fare on local bus/LINK/light rail and a 50-cent increase for a one-ride fare on Express/RAPID, Valley Metro officials said in a prepared statement.

The new fare structure would result in Express/RAPID riders sharing more equitably in the cost of operations, they said.

In addition, a new 15-day pass is being proposed for local bus/LINK/light rail, while a three-day pass would be discontinued.

The agency is conducting open houses, a public hearing, a fare-change webinar, social media conversations and in-person surveys to hear from the public.
