The Port Authority of Allegheny County created a supplemental public comment period extending from Oct. 13 to Nov. 12 to seek input on an adjustment to its fare proposal.

To address a $47.1 million fiscal-year 2011 budget shortfall, the agency had proposed raising Zone 1 fares by 25 cents to $2.25, increasing Zone 2 fares by 50 cents to $3.25 and charging a “premium” fare for some routes. Now, the agency is considering whether to eliminate the premium fares and instead increase the overall Zone 2 fare, according to a press release. The fare hike would take effect on Jan. 1, 2011.

The port authority also is proposing to slash light-rail and bus service 35 percent in March 2011.

The board plans to vote on the fare and service proposal in November.
