On Monday, New Mexico's Rail Runner Express will make its first run from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.

Gov. Bill Richardson, and state, local and tribal officials will join the inaugural train ride; service on the commuter-rail line will officially begin on Dec. 17. Two stations will be up and running on opening day, while another two are scheduled to open in the near future. Rail Runner expects to carry 4,500 passengers on the line each day.

In July 2006, Rail Runner launched service on its initial line between Albuquerque and Bernalillo. The agency phased in other segments of the line and now operates trains on a 50-mile corridor between Bernalillo and Belen.
