The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) late last week opened the new $19.6 million West Terminal at the 69th Street Transportation Center.Renovations to the multimodal facility's terminal include reconstructing pedestrian ramps to terminal platforms, replacing track and road surface, installing security cameras and several sustainability-related improvements, SEPTA officials said in a press release. The project called for the installation of two "green" roofs and a green wall to reduce storm water damage. The upgraded West Terminal and other projects underway will help attract new commercial ventures and visitors to the area, said SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey Knueppel. The 69th Street Transportation Center is located in Upper Darby Township, Pa., which borders on West Philadelphia. The facility serves passengers on SEPTA's Market-Frankford rail line, the Norristown High Speed Line, two trolley routes and 18 bus routes. The renovation work was funded through the Federal Transit Administration's Bus and Bus Facility Livability Grant Program and Pennsylvania Act 89, which allocated money for several transportation projects in the state.
