The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) has begun construction on the Watt/Interstate-80 Transit Center improvement project in Sacramento, California.

The agency recently invested millions of dollars in the transit center, including upgrading two elevators, and will spend $26 million on new improvements over the next two years, SacRT officials said in a news release.

The project includes widening the Watt Avenue Bridge, constructing an open-air stairwell linking Watt Avenue with the transit center, developing a new bus/pedestrian plaza, and upgrading I-80 on ramps and the portion of the transit center beneath Watt Avenue.

Construction has started with modifications to the bus lane at the light-rail station. The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.

"These improvements will not only make the transit center more accessible, but also more inviting and capable of handling increased ridership," said SacRT General Manager and CEO Henry Li.
