The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has awarded a $921.8 million construction manager/general contractor contract to a joint venture of Skanska, Herzog, and Stacy and Witbeck Inc. for the Mid-Coast Trolley Extension.

The 11.5-mile project will extend service from the Old Town Transit Center to the University City community. Skanska USA Civil's portion of the contract is valued at $307.3 million, officials from the company said in a press release.

Parsons Brinckerhoff, Kimley Horn and HDR Inc. are the project designers. In mid-September, the Federal Transit Administration awarded a $1 billion grant to SANDAG for the extension.

Construction is underway, with revenue service expected to begin in 2021.
