The San Francisco Bay area's Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) recently elected Scott Haggerty chairman and Adrienne Tissier, vice chairman. Both will serve two-year terms.

An Alameda County supervisor since 1997, Haggerty has served on the MTC since 2000 and has been vice chairman the past two years. He also is a member of the Altamont Rail Express Joint Powers Authority, Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority and Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Haggerty's top priority as board chair? Implementing the Transportation 2035 Plan, which includes a regional transit expansion program.

"With high-speed rail destined to become a reality, it's imperative that we expand BART, upgrade ACE and have other local and regional transit services in place to maximize connectivity and complement the statewide system," he said in a prepared statement.

Appointed to the MTC in 2006, Tissier most recently served as chair of the commission's Programming and Allocations Committee. She's been a San Mateo County supervisor since 2004.

The MTC serves as the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay area.
