The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) board recently adopted a long-range transportation plan.

The Valley Transportation Plan (VTP) 2035 calls for improving and expanding the current transit system, and implementing new technologies for transportation system management.

The program also includes a new element, the Transportation Energy and Air Quality Program, which will serve as a guideline for improving partnerships with local environmental agencies and conducting research to help address climate change, energy issues and new environmental legislation.

The VTP serves as VTA’s recommendation to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s regional transportation plan, which is scheduled to be complete in spring.

VTA last updated its long-range plan in 2005. Planning for VTP 2035 began in May 2007.
