Trinity Railway Express (TRE) recently named Bill Farquhar chief operating officer to succeed Pete Sklannik Jr., who left in December to become vice president of Wilbur Smith Associates’ national public transportation practice.

Farquhar, who will assume the post April 16, has 25 years’ experience in passenger- and freight-rail operations, planning and consulting. He most recently served as interim executive director and director of commuter rail for the Nashville Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), where he helped launch service on the Music City Star corridor.

Prior to joining RTA in 2005, Farquhar held senior rail planner positions with Korve Engineering in California. He also has served as rail operations planner for the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, rail planner/superintendent for San Diego Northern Railway, and consultant for commuter-rail start-ups Sound Transit and the San Joaquin Regional Rail Authority.
