Up to 10,000 volunteers will test TransLink's new electronic "Compass" fare card system starting Sept. 9 in Vancouver, British Columbia.TransLink chose volunteers for the Compass beta test based on how often they use the transit system. Riders will be able to load their cards at Compass vending machines installed at SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express stations, as well as online, by phone or in person at select locations, TransLink officials announced this week.TransLink recently expanded the beta test from 5,000 to 10,000 volunteers after more than 15,000 people applied to participate."We are excited to see how eager our customers are to get involved and play a role in testing the new Compass system," said Doug Kelsey, TransLink's chief operating officer, in a press release. Beta-test feedback will be used to correct problems before the new fare gate system is officially rolled out this fall, TransLink officials said.
