The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority reported yesterday that Tri-Rail ridership increased 25% in first-quarter 2023 compared with ridership during the same period a year ago.
The commuter railroad logged an average 13,000 weekday and 6,500 weekend riders during the first three months of 2023, SFRTA officials said in a press release.
Tri-Rail surpassed 300,000 rides in January, February and March — the railroad reached that figure only four times in 2022. And in March, Tri-Rail carried more than 350,000 riders, the highest monthly ridership count since February 2020.
In first-quarter 2023, Tri-Rail logged ridership gains of 30% in January, 27% in February and 20% in March compared with 2022 levels.
"There have been days where we carried up to 1,000 bikes onboard the trains, so we are working at adjusting our equipment to continue to accommodate the influx of riders," said SFRTA Executive Director David Dech.
