The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) recently launched a beta application of a new multi-modal trip planner — the first trip planner of its kind produced by a U.S. transit agency, TriMet officials said in a prepared statement.
The planner combines transit, biking and walking trips in one itinerary, making it easier for riders to plan trips, they said.
The planner is designed to reduce travel time compared with single-mode trip planners. Riders will be able to plan trips according to their preferences for the safest or quickest route, or flattest elevation. Because the regional trip planner uses open-source data, it was less expensive to develop and the technology can be used by other agencies worldwide, TriMet officials said.
