Triangle Transit to choose developer for regional rail project

North Carolina’s Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) soon will begin negotiating with Cherokee Investment Partners and Parsons Brinckerhoff division PB PlaceMaking to become master developers for the authority’s regional rail system.

The firms would be responsible for implementing a transit-oriented development program for TTA, which is building a 28-mile commuter-rail line connecting downtown Durham with Research Triangle Park, Morrisville, Cary, North Carolina State University and downtown Raleigh. The project includes building 12 stations. Cherokee and PB PlaceMaking would develop land near the stations to include housing, office and retail space, and entertainment.

TTA expects to begin constructing the line in mid-2006 and launch service in December 2008.
