Tucson streetcar line marks millionth passenger

The Tucson Sun Link Streetcar carried its millionth passenger late last week. The milestone occurred 44 days ahead of the streetcar's projected ridership figures, according to TV station KVOA.

The rider, a student at the University of Arizona, received an annual Sun-Go pass, providing her with unlimited use on the streetcar, Sun Link officials said in a statement.

"Less than a year after launch, the people of Tucson have made the streetcar a popular mode of transportation, and the streetcar has helped to make downtown a success," said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.

The roughly 4-mile streetcar will mark its first anniversary in July.
