Updates from Alternate Concepts, Alstom, Pacer, Axion International, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Railinc, RMI and Interfleet Technology

• Alternate Concepts Inc. received a five-year operation and maintenance contract with Tren Urbano, the Puerto Rican subway system. The $250 million pact will remain in effect through June 2015.

• Alstom has delivered the first two renovated coaches to the Bucharest Metro. The company will renovate a total of 15 trainsets in the metro fleet. The first of the renovated trainsets is expected to enter service in November. The renovation project is expected to be completed by March 2012. Alstom and Transmashholding also have signed a memorandum on mutual cooperation with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy for the production of electric locomotives. The memorandum should lead to the creation of a joint venture between the Kazakh railway and Alstom-TMH consortium, Alstom officials said in a prepared statement.

• Pacer International named Mike Clark executive vice president of capacity planning. Previously, he was executive vice president of operations for Panther Expedited Services. In addition, Val Noel was named executive vice president of street operations to assume all responsibility for intermodal and field operations; and Bob Sloan was appointed vice president of yield and network management. Pacer also announced that Joe Doherty, executive vice president of investor relations and treasurer, will depart in August. On an interim basis, Chief Financial Officer John Hafferty will assume investor relations responsibilities and Mike Gordon, vice president-corporate controller, will assume responsibility for treasury.

• Axion International announced the company’s first two purchase orders for crossties produced from recycled structural composite from Moroccan National Railway Company.

• Mel Sears was named area manager for the Portland, Ore., office of Parsons Brinckerhoff. He will be responsible for managing the company’s Oregon and southwest Washington operations. Previously he was principal for a northwest-based consulting engineering and environmental sciences firm. Parsons Brinckerhoff also named George Hodges senior engineering manager in the Los Angeles office. He will serve as a systems engineering lead for rail transit design/build projects. Previously, Hodges served as a civil/systems integration manager and the U-Link engineering manager at Sound Transit.

• Railinc announced the launch of its Industry Reference Files website, which enables rail industry participants to download select customized extracts of data contained within five industry reference files.

• RMI announced that RailAmerica Inc. will implement its RailConnect Transportation Management System at all 40 of its North American railroads. RailAmerica also plans to use RMI’s mCrew for remote train-crew reporting, and ShipperConnect to provide service and support to its customers.

• Interfleet Technology has named Andrew Grainger head of sustainability and environmental management, and appointed Dick Page to its asset management and maintenance group. Grainger previously served at specialist environmental consultancy ERM; Page previously was depot manager at Bounds Green.
