The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is soliciting public comment on a transit project along a five-mile corridor between downtown Ogden, Utah, and Weber State University. The agency has proposed either a streetcar or a bus rapid transit along the route, with each mode of transportation running at 15-minute intervals during peak service. The streetcar option would cost more to build and maintain, but is expected to have a greater economic impact, UTA officials said in a prepared statement.Projected capital costs for the streetcar range from $220 million to $234 million, while operational and maintenance costs would total about $3.37 million annually, according to the Open UTA website, where users can also submit feedback and comments.Organizers of the project aim to apply for federal funding to cover up to 50 percent of either option's capital costs. Local, regional, state, grants and public-private partnerships would fund the remainder of the costs, UTA officials said.
