VIA Rail earns risk management honors

VIA Rail Canada Inc. last week received an honorable mention in the Risk Management Society's (RIMS) enterprise risk management awards program.

Members of the RIMS selection committee highlighted how VIA Rail's risk management system provides added value to the railroad's operations and also assists its board in their oversight role of the company's activities, VIA Rail officials said in a press release.

This system is aimed at increasing the railroad's ability to better manage and prevent risks, support its development and growth strategy, and react with agility when risk occurs.

VIA Rail is the first time a passenger carrier is on the list of recipients, officials from the railroad said.

The railroad's risk management system also has recently received a safety excellence award from the Railway Association of Canada.
