The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has selected a venture of MidAtlantic Partners and CAS Riegler Cos. as developers for available transit-oriented development (TOD) sites at the Brookland-CUA Metrorail Station, agency officials announced yesterday.

The developer has proposed building 280 residential units and 9,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, as well as a new parking facility, according to a WMATA press release. The proposed TOD would not affect the property area known as Brookland Green, which the District of Columbia plans to acquire and turn into a public park, agency officials said.

The development agreement has yet to be approved by WMATA's board. Construction is expected to begin in 2016.

The team's selection is the second project award stemming from WMATA's joint development solicitation issued in November 2013.
