Rail News: Passenger Rail
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently tightened its internal management structure to help foster a “stronger passenger focus," according to the authority.
Five department chiefs now will report directly to Interim General Manager Dan Tangherlini: Chief Operating Officer for Rail Steve Feil, Chief Operating Officer for Bus Jack Requa, Acting Chief Operating Officer for MetroAccess Christian Kent, Assistant General Manager for System Safety and Risk Protection Fred Goodine, and Metro Transit Police Chief Polly Hanson.
The position of deputy general manager will be eliminated, so Deputy GMs P. Takis Salpeas and William Scott Jr. announced plans to leave the agency.
In addition, the Department of Customer Contract Services, which oversees the parking, SmarTrip and MetroAccess programs, has been eliminated. The Office of Parking will report to the acting deputy GM of customer service, operations and safety, and the SmarTrip program will be overseen by the chief financial officer.
